“Pocket English
Alphabet” is a simple application that anyone can use to learn the English
alphabet.
On the learning
screen the tiles that contain the English letters are nice and big; roughly six
tiles fit on a screen at once. This makes the app good for kids and the elderly
who may find it difficult to use their fingers accurately, because, kids are
inexperienced and the elderly may be impaired in old age.
Some similar
apps display all the English letters on a single screen, displaying them all at
once. Due to problems of kids and the elderly we did not do this as the tiles
would be too small for fingers and impaired eye-sight.
As an added
benefit the tiles on our app scroll; which adds interest and novelty to the
app.
In “Pocket English
Alphabet” the end-user has full control over access to the letters which some
other apps lack.
Having the English
letter tiles scroll gives kids an opportunity to use an additional skill in
using ICT, in this case a Smartphone or Tab. It makes kids search for the
letters they want to improve on in learning. In adding more physical activity
to the exercise the English letters are more likely to stick in the mind of a
child or adult helping them to retain the English letters in memory to aid
learning.
